Install OEM Towing Mirrors on 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra

Welcome to my inaugural How to Post! In the earlier post, I introduced you to my towing vehicle. I'm adopting a practical approach to modify it in the initial stages. I want to ensure that the truck handles all the necessary "truck tasks" that I require.

Step 1: Take a look at both the old and new mirrors, and get thrilled about all the visibility you will have and the capability to see what's coming up next to you. Below is all the tools you will need to start this the top row being mandatory. I purchased a interior panel kit online to make pulling the panels off way easier. Amazon Affiliate Link

Step 2:Time to take off the mirrors. Remove the panel pictured below a quick tug towards you is all that's needed.

Step 3:After removing the plastic cover you'll see one of the three 10mm bolts exposed

Step 4: Unfortunately the door panel will have to be removed to access the other 2 bolts. Push in the center of the clip pictured below.

Step 5: There is a bolt hiding in the center of the grab handle of the door.

Step 6: There is one more bolt behind this plate behind the door handle easily accessible with a small flathead screwdriver.

Step 7: After the plate is removed unscrew the last bolt that is now exposed.

Step 8: Now that all bolts holding down the door panel have been removed you can pull the door panel towards you from the bottom.Just 1 quick pull will snap off the panel.

Step 9: Once the door panel comes off the other 10mm bolts and connector is exposed.

Step 10: Pull out the connector by unclipping from the bottom.

Step 11: Now that the clip is removed remove the 3x 10mm bolts to loosen the Mirror.

Step 12: Now that the mirror is loose ther is one more plastic clip to push through.

Step 13: The Mirror now freely pops out. Comparing the mirror you can see that the towing mirror isn't actually much bigger in height. It's just out a little more and has that trick little bottom mirror that lets you see oncoming traffic. Mount it back into the three holes that the oem mirror dropped out from and make sure to thread a bolt on to hold it while you prep to remount.

Step 14: Tighten all three bolts back hand tight should be plenty. I used my Ryobi Electric ratchet which has a max torque rating 35 ft lbs and gave it one more spin just to be sure it doesn't wiggle off.

Step 15: Remount the plastic door card reinstall the screws pulled off in steps 5 & 7 and reinstall the little plastic triangle above the door card.

Step 16: Pop the top off your favorite beverage and marvel at the awesomeness. The LED's in the side mirrors are pretty amazing and since it's all Toyota it just works as intended!
